Ufahamu
Ufahamu is Swahili for "awareness". It is changing lives through its capability to visualize raw data to a form people can understand without straining. This has been possible, by retrieving open data from local and international reliable repositories like opendata.go.ke from the Kenyan government, open.nasa.gov, and data.worldbank.org. We participated in the International Space Apps Challenge.
As a result, this has made it possible for small NGOs , researchers, community health workers and other interested parties to identify key relevant regions. For instance, an NGO (non-government organization) on a mission to stop malaria by giving out treated mosquito nets will be able to access relevant information on locations with high cases of malaria infected persons. Ufahamu comes in handy on mobile, tablet and pc version therefore enhancing accessibility.
Currently, we have managed to visualize data from population, water to health issues like malaria (observing the world malaria day on 25th April, 2012), typhoid and diarrhoea.
We are passionate about natural resources in relation to health statistics, the technology behind it and how we are changing lives.
