Nick H.'s Recent Activity
Nick Howes - Whilst his day job as a software test analyst, and young family consume most of his time, he also finds a way to squeeze in being the equipment consultant for Astronomy Now magazine where he writes their monthly solar section and regularly reviews and tests CCD cameras and telescopes, as well as writing about interesting historical locations around the world. Nick has also written for Amateur Astronomy, Practical Astronomer and a multitude of other technology and photography magazines, his work having appeared in National Geographic, Discovery Channel, BBC's Stargargazing Live/Sky At Night/News along with multiple national newspapers, where in 2010 he made international headlines with his co-discovery of the split in comet C2007/Q3. Nick was the team leader for the World Record image of the Moon taken in 2009, and lives in Wiltshire, where he is on the committee of Wiltshire Astronomical Society, and acts as a consultant for the GEO Observatory in Andalucia Spain. He is currently working on comet recovery and detection programs with Faulkes telescope, and recently co-authored an AP Journal paper on Comet 103P, whilst working with the Italian CARA comet research group. Recently he has been working with ESO on imaging massive star clusters, and was nominated and placed in the top 10 in the 2010 Shorty Awards in the science category.
